Seoul, Korea Subway System… OMG!!!

The subway system in Seoul, Korea is one of the fastest and best ways to get around Seoul.  It’s also drop dead clean and extremely modern and probably one of the best subway systems in the world.  They even have sliding glass doors by the tracks where people gather and as soon as the subway comes, the doors slide open as you enter the subway car itself.  I’m accustomed to the dirty and grimy subway system of NYC and it literally is a completely different world.

The stops are all programmed and called out thru a recording system in both Korean and English and tells you which side to exit.  However, because the the subway system is so vast, looking at the map for a first timer can be a bit daunting to say the least.  That and the number of people inside the subway stations can be a bit overwhelming, especially during rush hour.  What’s also confusing is each time you exit or transfer to a different line, you must swipe your card and sometimes you are charged extra depending on how far you have travelled.  A bit confusing at first as I wasn’t allowed to exit and a bit embarrassing.

Below are the maps in both Korean and in English.  Lots of stations and lots of of places to transfer.
