Five Guys was founded back in 1986 by the Murrell family in Arlington, VA.  The concept and franchise has really taken off in recent years and has received numerous raves by publications and consumers alike.

A peculiar oddity are the complimentary peanuts served at most locations.  Peculiar because one would never associate eating burgers, fries and peanuts?!?

On this visit, we had ordered two cheeseburgers “All The Way” with jalapeño peppers, a large order of “Five Guys Style” fries and two large sodas.  The total bill came out to a little over $20, which for a fast food burger meal for two is a bit more expensive than McDonald’s, Burger King and other similar chains.

For those who have never been, when you order your burger, you can individualize your toppings to your heart’s content or just order “All The Way” or “Everything” which gives you all of the toppings that are in black on the menu.

The burger itself was quite good for a fast food burger and much tastier than your typical fare at McDonald’s, Burger King, Sonic and others but the real standout of the meal were the fries.  They are fresh, house cut fries which is atypical for a fast food chain.

My favorite burger chain is In ‘N’ Out, which happens to be one that is not available on the east coast.  In my opinion, there is no better fast food burger.  However, I do feel that the fries served at Five Guys are far superior to any other fast food burger chain, including In ‘N’ Out.  You also have the choice to order them “Cajun Style” rather than the plain salted “Five Guys Style”.

You will spend a little bit more at Five Guys for a meal than you would at other fast food burger joints but at the same time, you do get a better burger and the french fries itself more than makes up for it.  Now if only In ‘N’ Out was around the corner, maybe I would be less enthused?  Hmmm…
